Tate Modern

A little while ago on one of my many adventures around South Bank I popped into the Tate Modern for a quick look see. I hadn't been there for years and my previous experience had been rather negative, however as I've matured I've begun to appreciate art a lot more and I really enjoyed all the unusual concepts. I'm definitely a fan of modern art more than anything else so I found the installations, photographs and abstract paintings really interesting. Even though I don't always 'get' the theory behind some of the pieces it doesn't stop me enjoying the use of colours, material and imagination.

The final photos is from Unilever Series and features 100 million sunflower seeds and it's art like this that makes me enjoy the modern movement so much because it's just ridiculous! I'm not an arty person at all, I hated the subject at school but I do like the concept that anything can be art no mater how stupid it appears. I may not get is most the time but it's the randomness I enjoy and the fact that something can look good without having a point.

What do you think of modern art x

  1. We use to always go down to Tate Modern when I was doing my A Level art - haven't been since though. I did love the sense of light and space in the galleries but it did seem a little stop start with no sense of logic to the galleries. Maybe its changed since then, it has been a while.

  2. I can see that you like Tate Modern, because you often mention it, but I personally prefer The Wallace Collection and National (Portrait) Gallery. X

  6. Wish I'd had time to visit Tate Modern when I was last in London. Would have loved to see The Sunflower Seeds. Can't believe the Chinese governmnet have arrested the artist, Ai Weiwei! You can sign a petition to call for his release here: http://www.change.org/petitions/call-for-the-release-of-ai-weiwei

  11. I love the Tate modern because of the atmosphere but not the art, I'm not much of a modern art fan but I do like portraits-new, old or photos.
I like putting a picture into a point in history and unpicking what everything means.
I love medieval/early modern art because I studied it a little as part of my history course at uni x
