HOTEL REVIEW: Mother Goose, Utrecht

The search is over, I've discovered my favourite hotel.

Mother Goose, found in the very centre of Utrecht, is a dream come true. The hotel captures the essence of my affordable luxury mantra. Rooms are reasonably priced yet they ooze a luxurious warmth thanks to their comfortable and stylish design.

Opened in 2014, Mother Goose is located in a 14th century building on Ganzenmarkt, the central square in Utrecht. Rooms overlook the city's famous Dom Tower and the location could not be handier for discovering the delights of the city. With only 23 rooms spread across four floors, this is a small hotel but what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm. The four floors encompass a different design focus. The White Goose floor is bright an airy; the Grey Goose floor is cooling and moody; the Brown Goose floor is warm and earthy; and the Black Goose floor is dark and sultry.

As we were only staying for one nigh I opted to upgrade our room to a suite (€165 per night). We were randomly allocated the Grey Goose suite but I'm sure you can request a specific room if you're that way inclined. The room was modern with a slight rustic twist; think exposed brick work, neutral tones, and lots of wood. We had so much space. From the biggest, comfiest bed I've ever slept in, to a lovely seating area, and an open bathroom with an enormous tub. It couldn't have been dreamier.

We only had 12 hours in our room which was such a shame because the hotel was beautiful. As affordable boutiques hotels go, I think Mother Goose will be hard to beat.
